ONE-Dyas, a leading Dutch energy company in the oil and gas industry, is committed to safe and sustainable energy production. During the development of an autonomous gas platform above Schiermonnikoog, the company faced the challenge of meeting stricter cybersecurity requirements. Together with Compumatica, ONE-Dyas implemented a solution that combines maximum security with operational continuity and complies with both national and European regulations.
Challenge: Efficient and secure data exchange in an autonomous platform
The autonomous platform brought new requirements for securing data exchanges between IT and OT systems. Continuous and reliable insight into operational data had to be possible without compromising system integrity. Furthermore, the solution had to comply with strict national and European regulations, such as the Dutch "Vital A" classification and the EU NIS2 directive, which requires essential entities to strengthen their cyber resilience.
Compumatica's MagiCtwin Diode offered a solution that enables secure, one-way data transfer, keeping OT and IT networks strictly separate. This approach prevents potential external threats while still enabling real-time monitoring and analysis of operational data using protocols such as OPC-UA.
Furthermore, integration with SCADA and PC systems plays a crucial role in platform security. Thanks to OPC-UA support, the platform could continue to function securely and efficiently without compromising data accessibility. The implementation had to align with existing processes and infrastructures, without disrupting operational activities
Implementation: Successful collaboration and efficient commissioning
The collaboration between ONE-Dyas and Compumatica was smooth and efficient. The ONE-Dyas team received extensive training, clear manuals, and full technical support during installation. Thanks to the MagiCtwin Diode, IT and OT systems were securely connected, in accordance with critical infrastructure requirements.
The platform's specific operational requirements were considered during implementation, including the integration of OPC-UA with SCADA and PC systems. The MagiCtwin Diode was configured for secure and controlled data flow, ensuring that essential processes could continue uninterrupted.
Compumatica also offered a flexible and scalable solution, allowing for easy future expansion. Thanks to its compatibility with industrial protocols such as OPC-UA, Modbus, and IEC 60870-5-104, the MagiCtwin Diode seamlessly integrates into existing and future infrastructures.
Future Vision: Preparing for the next generation of security
ONE-Dyas is looking to the future and, together with Compumatica, is exploring further expansions in cybersecurity. This includes not only post-quantum proof encryption (as offered by the CryptoGuard solution), but also compliance with the strictest EU regulations, such as NIS2.
